New luxury rail tours offered in the East
New luxury rail tours in Eastern Canada and the Northeastern
U.S. are being offered by the Acadian Railway Company beginning
in June.
The Acadian Rail Company will offer more than 27 all-inclusive,
escorted and non-escorted tour packages through Quebec, the
Maritimes and New England. Tours will include most meals,
accommodations, guides, transfers and sight-seeing. Optional
pre- and post-excursions are available.

The centrepiece of each tour will be an all-daylight rail
journey aboard the luxurious The Acadian or Lake Champlain
trains that will include gourmet cuisine, top-quality service,
historical commentary and breathtaking views. Packages range
from three-day Mini Break Tours priced from just under U.S.
$799 (per person, double occupancy) to 12-day Rail Cruise
vacations featuring Holland America Lines that are priced
from U.S. $3,725.
All tours onboard The Acadian will be offered seasonally,
from June to mid-September during the summer season, and from
mid-September until late October for Autumn Leaf Tours, which
provide opportunities to view the spectacular fall foliage.
Departure cities will include Montreal, Halifax, Boston, New
York City and Portland, Maine.
The Acadian comprises some 10 streamlined stainless steel
railcars from the 1940s and 1950s, originally built by the
Budd Company of Philadelphia, and recently fully rebuilt to
today’s standards of safety and comfort.
The train’s dome dining car, which provides a 360-degree
view, and its parlour cars, coaches and observation areas
have been restored in a luxurious classical style, with wood
and brass interiors reminiscent of the great trains of the
19th century. Along with the rich mahogany and cherry wood
finishes, there are comfortable chairs, pleasant lighting
and plush carpeting. The equally luxurious Lake Champlain
is really part of a train, consisting of one, two or three
private Acadian Railway cars attached to the rear of the regularly
scheduled Amtrack Adirondack train between New York and Montreal.
Acadian Rail promotes gourmet cuisine as a major feature
of the tours. Meals are prepared onboard by a master chef.
Many of the dishes offered are native to the regions the train
travels through, as are the complimentary wines served with
each meal.
